Thanksgiving

Today was a day to give thanks. This day about 500 years ago the native Americans helped the new settlers out with some food and shelter, and if not for their generosity, then where would we be today?

As part of my newfound interest in all things American, I joined a group of them a turkey-orgy. One of the participants had starved herself for two days to make sure she'd be able to stuff herself to the max. It kind of reminded me of the Swedish approach to Julbord, where the race is on to see who of the men (and wannabe-men) can finish the most plates.

Since christmas is only a month away, the hotel where we dined was thoughtful enough to hire a santa clause to entertain the crowd. The man was obviously a total pervert and didn't even try to hide the fact that he was just using the opportunity to grope all the women in the room. I was joined by Lihua who is kind of interested in the whole western thing. I thought she might enjoy meeting santa, so I called him over. The man made it quite clear that he despised me and everybody else in the room, and that it's a bloody shame that christmas comes earlier and earlier every year.

Did you know the founding fathers were considering making the turkey the national symbol of the U.S. of A? Wouldn't that have been something, a turkey instead of an eagle. I wonder whether that would have had an impact on their foreign policy. Could you possibly go to war when you are symbolized by a turkey? Posted by Picasa
